ARTICLE OPTIONS A   A Little Big Town’s “Pontoon” topped the country charts this summer just as pontoon boats have headed the list of sales for many boat dealers across the country. If this song-and-boat trend continues, I expect the next hit song will be “Kayak” because kayaks are gaining in popularity among a variety of boaters, especially anglers. Kayak Angling Recent fishing competitions give credence to the growing popularity of kayaks in the angling world. One such event was the 2012 Musky Fly Fishing World Championship held on Tennessee’s Caney Fork and Collins rivers. James McBeath of Ontario, Canada, w

Jig Fishing Today

www.rod-fly-fishing.com This is better than messing around with smelly bait, then there is the bait unused to take home and refreeze Jig fishing today Boonville Daily News "Bill Binkleman, the founder of Fishing Facts Magazine, was a proponent of using jigs to catch fish, especially bass, crappie, and walleye. Core Interest

The term “core interest” might sound like simple editorial boilerplate or a harmless diplomatic cliché Will China Arm Its Fishermen to Protect a 'Core Interest'? "Images of Wednesday's front pages from a number of Chinese newspapers have been collated (with translated headlines) by China Digital Times, with stories denouncing Japan and claiming the islands as Chinese territory. The state media, it appears, is ..." http://rendezvous.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/12/will-china-arm-its-fishermen-to-protect-a-core-interest/ “We should militarize our fishermen,” said He Jianbin, the head of the large state-owned Baosha fishing corporation, referring to confrontations near the Spratly islands, another of Beijing’s disputes in the region.    www.rod-fly-fishing.com

Picking The Right Luer

By Mark Sherburn, Fish and Game Officer.  Eastern Region   New Zealand  There is a saying in the tackle industry that lures are made to catch the  anglers first!  I am sure that, like me, you have enjoyed staring Goggle-eyed in fishing stores over the vast array of fishing lures in every shape and colour imaginable. " But, which one do I buy, and which one do I put on?" Lure choice is one of those often debated topics within groups of fishers. During opening day surveys on Lake Tarawera I enjoy asking successful anglers what they were using. Some don't like to tell me- I assume because they are using some hot super secret  new lure that they've 'invented', but I doubt it. while others are only too keen to tell me " orange number 56, swear by it, "only lure I ever use..." Not surprisingly, there are old rules of the thumb too; dark lure on a dark day, bright lure on a bright days, reds and orange in the winter, etc. No matter which lure is y

What if windpower had been 'their' idea?

www.rod-fly-fishing.com This starts out as a fly-fishing story. Uncle Ted and I had cut a swath through the blue ribbon trout streams of the greater Yellowstone area. The Tedder is a renowned fisherman and hunter in Idaho, and so far the highlight of the trip for me was that I was staying even with him. Now I had a new challenge for Ted. I had intrigued him with a story I had written for a fly-fishing magazine on catching common carp on the fly. What if windpower had been 'their' idea? Mark Altieri Plain Dealer "I had intrigued him with a story I had written for a fly-fishing magazine on catching common carp on the fly. I also had been periodically sending him Plain Dealer articles by D'Arcy Egan highlighting me fly fishing for carp on the Rocky River and ..." http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index.ssf/2012/09/what_if_windpower_had_been_the.html But what if the wind industry had evolved differently? Let's say the things were actually efficient, didn't re

I must admit that when it comes to electronic technology, sometimes you  nearly need a university degree to run it.  With all the added technology in some of these gizmos, if you do not use them on a regular basis. One is inclined to forget how to operate them.  David Webb Bookmark the permalink.Western Sportsman Magazine: Hunting,..." http://www.westernsportsman.com/2012/08/gear-review-bushnell-backtrack-hunttrack/    I most likely would be considered prehistoric or, at the very least, antiquated. I like it simple — that is not to say that modern technology has escaped me, it has not, but in many ways it has gotten so complicated that one almost needs a course on just how to run some of this technology. Not so with the Bushnell BackTrack HuntTrack GPS.  It was designed with users just like me in mind by offering a simple navigation hand held GPS that allows the user an easy way to mark waypoints and find their way back without a lot of unnecessary or complicated features.
