Sadly,it seems that fact of life these days that kids spend less time outside doing good  'wholesome stuff ' than they once did. A plethora of opportunities face kids these days, many of whom seemed to radiate around computer monitors!
Fishing, and hunting for that matter, are both good healthy old time outdoor activities that our kids might now be missing out on. If you find yourself wondering what to do with little Johnny or Johana during the school holidays then trout fishing might just be the right outlet for them. Fishing also helps promote family together time, conservation and a good basic understanding of how things work! To name just a few, my kids have learnt to row a boat, use an outboard, and kill and cook fish on the beach for example-not the sort of thing that even computer games teach.

Our children's fishing program  (see events calendar in your issue)it is a great place to begin. If there is a spark of interest then they might be ready to go to it themselves-or even better with your supervision. I know parents who have enjoyed the experience so much they have taken fishing up themselves. Fishing clubs, the library, the Internet, DVDs, our getting started publication or one of our instructional tuition days might be the next step. Either way, kids and fishing go hand-in-hand, so why not get them into it?
